Iyari creates remedial programs to support the needs of her clients by providing individually prescribed practices that can be integrated into daily life to foster healing, connection and a sense of empowerment. Understanding mental health through the yogic perspective, she teaches self regulating skills including breathwork, mindfulness, meditation and yoga.
Iyari’s philosophy is one of integrating the modern scientific model of our body-mind systems with the preexisting, ancient wisdom of yoga.
Yoga is a holistic, integrated practice which is about creating a healthy state within the mind, body and spirit. It is far more comprehensive than the limited practice of asana that we have become familiar with in the west, which is only one branch amongst the whole tree of yoga. It invites us into our inherent wholeness by strengthening our sense of self. Here we develop meaning and fulfillment within and without.
Iyari’s practice is informed by the plentiful scientific evidence linking chronic stress and trauma to all kinds of illness, and the power of healing the nervous system to remedy these conditions.
Through certain practices such as breathwork, we can rewire the brain and retrain the system to feel safe in the present moment. Rather than being dominated by fear, anxiety or unfulfillment, these techniques move one’s baseline towards peace, joy and inner rest. This then ripples into the health of the rest of the body, including the immune and endocrine system.
She is also currently in her final year studying somatic Psychotherapy.
This integrative, compassionate approach is both supportive independently and complimentary to working in conjunction with a talk therapist.
“The essence of trauma is a disconnect from the Self. Therefore the essence of healing is not just uncovering one's past, but reconnecting with oneself in the present.”
— Gabor Maté
